ESO 2025: New Seasonal Model & Content Pass Explained

  • The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is making big changes in 2025, shifting away from its traditional yearly Chapter model and introducing a brand-new Seasonal Content Cadence and Content Pass. Whether you’re a longtime player or just getting started, this guide will break down everything you need to know about what’s changing, what you’ll get, and how the new system compares to previous years.

The Old ESO Release Model (2014–2024)

In previous years, ESO followed a four-quarter release schedule:

        Quarter 1 – Dungeon DLC
Quarter 2 – Full Chapter Expansion (like High Isle or Gold Road)
Quarter 3 – Second Dungeon DLC
Quarter 4 – Smaller Zone DLC

    For example, in 2022:

Q1: Ascending Tide (Coral Aerie & Shipwright’s Regret)
Q2: High Isle Chapter (purchased separately, not included in ESO Plus)
Q3: Lost Depths (Graven Deep & Earthen Root Enclave)
        Q4: Firesong (Galen zone DLC)

Typically, the chapter cost $40–$50, and collector’s editions (including previous content) were around $80. ESO Plus subscribers could access dungeon and zone DLCs but still had to purchase major chapters separately.

In 2023–2024, ZeniMax Online Studios shifted focus:

        Q1: Dungeon DLC
        Q2: Major Chapter
Q3 & Q4: Quality-of-life updates (e.g., Infinite Archive, battleground revamps, new companions, housing features)

What’s Changing in 2025? Introducing Seasonal Cadence

For 2025 and beyond, ESO is transitioning to a seasonal cadence, which breaks content into more frequent, manageable updates without the need for a huge yearly chapter. This format gives ZeniMax more room to enhance game systems, fix bugs, and deliver better experiences overall.

    Here’s the new structure:

Quarter 1: Fallen Banners Dungeon DLC (Released)
Quarter 2: Seasons of the Worm Cult: Part 1
New zone: Solstice (island near Murkmire)
            New 12-player Trial: Aan Cauge
Quarter 3: Feast of Shadows Dungeon DLC
Quarter 4: Seasons of the Worm Cult: Part 2
            Second half of Solstice
Major live community event: The Writhing Wall Battle

First time ever: A live-action event where players unite to tear down the wall dividing East and West Solstice. Non-pass holders can still participate, but only Content Pass owners can access the in-zone battles.

What Is the ESO Content Pass?

The Content Pass is ESO’s replacement for yearly chapters. Instead of buying pieces of content individually (or waiting for ESO Plus access), players can now buy a single Content Pass that gives permanent ownership of all 2025 seasonal content:

Included in the 2025 Content Pass ($49.99):

Fallen Banners Dungeon DLC (Exiled Redoubt, Lepslusa)
Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1
            Solstice Zone (half)
            Storyline
            Trial: Aan Cauge
        Writhing Wall live event
        Feast of Shadows Dungeon DLC
Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 2 (Finale and full zone)

    Bonus Preorder Rewards:

Mage's Guild Recall action (preorder by May 7)
        Shell Tide Beach Emote Pack
        10-Year Mudcrab Pet
        10-Year Lion Guard Steed

    Included with Purchase:

        Remnant of Meridia’s Light Memento
        Golden Eagle Pet
        Skull-Tooth Derzog Mount

ESO Plus subscribers still get access to the dungeon DLCs, but not ownership. If your subscription lapses, you lose access to them. You also won’t get access to the Solstice zone content unless you purchase the Content Pass.

The new ESO 2025 Content Plan and Content Pass offer a smarter, more player-friendly approach to how content is delivered and owned. By streamlining expansions into smaller, story-rich seasonal arcs, ZeniMax Online Studios can better support the community with quality content and meaningful updates — without overwhelming players with a single massive chapter every year.
