Introduction Of Cold Foil

  • Cold foil stems from a simple idea. As a temperature-dependent in-line process, the method utilizes a printer to press an image onto a substrate with UV-curable cold foil adhesive. A UV light or dryer activates the adhesive - no need to heat the device directly. The foil is bonded with the adhesive and substrate layers to form the image until the process is completed by removing the foil from the adhesive. The process may sound a bit complicated, but it is relatively simple and inexpensive.

Cold foil is applied by printing UV curing adhesive on the desired areas where you need the foil. Then immediately place the foil over the adhesive, covering it completely. The foil is peeled off but remains only in the adhesive-coated areas. Finally, the label is run under UV light to fully cure the adhesive. The process of removing the access foil from the label makes this method less suitable for designs with fine details.

The cold foil printing process is ideal for low-cost jobs printed with gold or metallic inks. These jobs tend to come in matte colors without the brilliance of foils, but with a wide variety of cool foils to choose from, the possibilities are endless. We offer foils in a variety of colors, including metallic, gold and silver, as well as holographic/diffractive and iridescent, to match many traditional hot stamping foils on the market.
