Runescape designer Jagex has put an end with Runelite HD

  • Runescape designer Jagex has put an end with Runelite HD, a fan-made HD mod of the well-known online client, which is an  OSRS gold open-source project for Old School Runescape, just when the project was scheduled to launch last Monday. The decision was made at the eleventh hour, and has some Runescape supporters expressing their displeasure over Jagex's decision , and stating that they'll shift to other games.

Runelite HD creator "117" posted on Reddit Tuesday, sharing the message from Jagex and was later confirmed by Jagex in the company's own blog post. Runelite HD operates as a plugin that will provide an important visual overhaul the core game Runescape, as can be found by 117's Twitter. Moderator 117 stated that they've logged around two thousand hours over the course of two years developing Runelite HD.

"Yesterday we contacted the developers of well-known HD projects and we asked for them to stop working on their respective projects as it's a project we are actively investigating," Jagex stated. Jagex told 117 the company's work on creating an HD edition of Old School Runescape was "still still in the early exploration stages" however "very still in the process."

"Naturally this means that any fan-driven initiative that seeks to change the way Old School RuneScape looks is at odds with our own designs," Jagex wrote to 117. "We believe it's vital that there is consistency in the manner that Old School looks as a result, so we'd like to make certain that our changes to the official version are the only ones we have available.

Hope that the news of Jagex and the Old School team are tackling this project seriously is something that excites you however it could require us to politely ask you shut down your personal projects."

117 said that they offered Jagex an alternative in the rs07 fire cape service  form of dropping their software once Jagex had released theirs, and also giving Jagex "collaborative control" over Runelite HD's visual style.
