Gelatin capsules were originally invented by French pharmacists

  •     Gelatin capsules were invented in 1833 by the French pharmacist FAB Mothers. His first method of making it was to use a small leather bag filled with mercury, which was then coated in a gelatin solution. Mothers have improved this method by using solid molds made of polished brass, greatly increasing the cost-effectiveness of gelatin capsule production.

It has proven popular with pharmacists and patients. For pharmacists, it allows for better dose control and better protection of medicines from heat, cold, and moisture. For patients, this means they no longer have to put up with bitter-tasting drugs.

By the end of the 19th century, the United States had become the world leader in the development of gelatin capsules. Between 1894 and 1897, American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly built their first capsule manufacturing plant for the production of newly developed 2-piece self-locking hard capsules. Within 20 years, they revolutionized the industry by developing the first method to automatically manufacture hard capsules.

In 1930, Robert P. Scherer revolutionized the production of soft gelatin capsules (soft capsules) by developing an automatic continuous filling machine that made mass production possible.

Gelatin has been the shell excipient of choice for pharmaceutical manufacturers due to its reliability and safety. However, since gelatin is not the best option for vegetarians, the manufacturer wanted to come up with an alternative ingredient. So in 2001, the first generation of vegetarian semi-synthetic HPMC capsules was launched, followed by vegetarian soft capsules made of semi-synthetic modified starch.

Xinchang Hexin Capsules Co., Ltd. is an Empty Gel Capsules Manufacturer and Clear Vegetarian Capsules Supplier in China. It produces and sells Quick Dissolving Capsules, Empty Gelatin Capsules, and other empty capsules all year round.
