How to use a Custom Rice Cookers Manufacturers' rice cooker
All the rice cookers we tested have similar steps for using a rice cooker.
Wash as much as possible before first use. If using the machine for the first time, gently clean the inner pot, lid (if not attached to the main body), rice spatula, steamer and rice measuring cup.
Follow the measurements that came with the pan. Measure out the amount of rice you want to cook (1 cup provided is usually 2 servings when cooked) and place it in the inner pot removed from the main body. Fill the inner pot more than half full with warm water, knead some rice between your fingers to quickly remove excess starch, then pour. Repeat at least 2 times until the water runs clear and drains as much water as possible. Add enough water to the rice cooker to meet the corresponding water line (i.e. 1 cup provided measuring cup to the first water line or "water line 1") or the amount you want.
Different scales produce different textures. The amount of water to rice required can come from "trial and error" or what you learn. For example, some say that enough water means the water level "reaches your knuckles when you put your whole hand on the surface of the rice" or "the first line of your index finger". (The method of measuring water level by hand or finger comes from Asian families and has been passed down from generation to generation because our elders never measured anything. They always said "measure with the eye".)
Wipe the outside of the pot and check the vents before pressing start. Always wipe the outside of the inner pot before placing it in the cooktop body, as any dirt or water or particles can interfere with the heating element. Put the cleaned inner pot into the main body and close the lid. Start cooking by pressing the necessary buttons, either a single button or a "menu" button, to cook to the correct type of rice. Once the rice cooker has started cooking, just make sure the vents on the lid of the machine are completely clear of anything, and now you're ready to cook your main dish to match the perfect rice.
