    How Pressure Washer Manufacturers Work
    A pressure washer is actually a fairly simple device. An electric motor or engine turns the pump, pushing water through the hole (tip). Water accelerates as it flows through small holes, like a river flowing faster in a narrow canyon, and fast-moving water is great for blasting mud and grime. Math is simple. Every time the pump turns, a certain volume of water passes through the tip. The more water you push through the tip, the more pressure is created and therefore more power is required. The higher the pressure and the faster the water moves, the harder it is to hit the dirt and remove it from the surface you're cleaning.

    Gallons Per Minute (GPM)
    The amount of water produced by a pressure washer is measured in gallons per minute or GPM. Volume also contributes to cleaning power.

    Cleaning the Power Supply Unit (CPU)
    The cleaning power unit quantifies the cleaning power of a pressure washer. To determine CPU, multiply by GPM x PSI. The bigger the CPU, the greater the machine's ability to deep clean effectively.
