What Exactly Is a PIR Sensor Light

  •     The acronym PIR stands for "Passive Infrared". Infrared sensors can be used in the PIR outdoor led flood light to continuously monitor everything within range.

PIR sensors only detect thermal signatures. As such, inanimate objects beyond their field of vision will rarely activate them. Not only does this make them ideal safety lights, but it also means they won't go out if leaves fall on the sidewalk or branches move in the wind.

PIR sensors have some advantages that need to be explained here:

        1) The most energy efficient. It can be set to cycle with less energy. It uses less energy (0.8W vs 1.0W) than microwave sensors. It differs from voice-activated or other induction lights in that it does not require sound, which eliminates the problem of voice-activated noise, and because it is a switch that detects body temperature, it prevents the loss of ineffective power.

        2) The PIR motion sensor light probe does not emit any type of electromagnetic wave. So there are no interference problems around sensitive test equipment.

    shortcoming:

    1. Most are not programmed for continuous sensing. They are designed to cycle, which means the lights must go out before they can start sensing again. This is usually because their own light may interfere with the sensor
    2. The advertised distance can be up to 90 feet, but the real world will usually be less than 40 feet. Real-world use of PIR sensors is more limited than microwaves.
    3. It is more prone to false positives. Wind and leaves can detonate them.)
