"We aren't aiming to alter the WOW WOTLK Classic Gold fights so as to make them and completely unrecognizable, or even fundamentally different when compared to the Classic versions," Blizzard writes. "Our idea is to bring something subtle and fresh in conjunction with this Season of Mastery that feels extremely much in the spirit of the original encounters."
No release date for WoW Classic Season of Mastery has been determined. It was announced that WoW Classic seasons was made amid controversy over multiple lawsuits as well as investigation into an alleged long period of sexual harassment and discrimination at Activision Blizzard. Next year's BlizzCon event, which is where the major announcements of the studio's games are typically made in the past, was recently cancelled. Blizzard has said it's taking the extra time to reimagine the event's future but the announcements of future games and updates are expected to still be forthcoming in the coming months.
Blizzard is cancelling BlizzCon 2022 to reimagine the Future of The Event
BlizzCon 2022 that was scheduled to take place in February and would be mostly virtual, along with small-scale, in-person gatherings was canceled. The decision was made in the midst of ongoing lawsuits, investigations and lawsuits alleging widespread sexual harassment and discrimination from Activision Blizzard.
Blizzard announces that the energy usually dedicated to putting on the annual event will instead be directed towards "supporting our teams and further advancement of our games as well as experiences." Without BlizzCon this year, Blizzard will also take the extra chance to "reimagine" what the convention might look like.
"The first BlizzCon took place 16 years ago, and much has changed in the time since. Most notable is the variety of ways in which communities and players can gather and feel part of something larger," Blizzard's statement reads. "Whatever the venue will be in the future it is important to make sure it feels as welcoming, safe, and buy WOTLK Gold inclusive as it is."
